How to mend holes in the crotch of jeans

by Daniel Forslund 23 Feb 2026

How to mend holes in the crotch of jeans – quickly and sustainably

Holes in the crotch are one of the most common reasons jeans are thrown away. The fabric wears down as your legs move against each other, putting a lot of strain on a small area. But a hole between your legs doesn't mean your jeans are ruined. It means they're worn.

In this guide, we'll show you how to easily repair holes in the crotch of jeans at home with a durable patch. It's quick, durable, and will extend the life of your favorite jeans by several years.

Why do jeans rip in the crotch?

The crotch is exposed to constant friction. When you walk, ride a bike or sit, the fabric bends and rubs against itself. Over time, the denim fibers weaken and the area becomes thinner until a hole appears.

It's not uncommon for jeans to be in perfect condition everywhere else, so it's financially smarter to repair them than to buy new ones.

How to repair a hole in a branch – step by step

1. Wash and dry the jeans

The fabric must be clean and dry for the patch to adhere properly. Avoid fabric softener as it may affect adhesion.

2. Cut the team patch

Use a patch that covers the entire worn area with a good margin. Round the edges for better durability. For denim we recommend 100% cotton jeans patch .

3. Place the note on the inside

For crotch repairs, it is best to attach the patch to the inside of the jeans. This makes the repair discreet and reduces the risk of further friction.

4. Press firmly

Press the patch from the center outwards to remove air bubbles. Use low heat with baking paper in between for extra adhesion.

5. Let rest

Let the jeans lie flat for at least an hour. Wait 24 hours before washing for the first time for maximum durability.

Reinforce before the hole gets big

It's best to repair the hole before it's completely open. If the fabric is starting to thin, you can reinforce the area as a preventative measure. This will significantly increase the lifespan and reduce the risk of the jeans completely tearing.

Common mistakes to avoid

1. Repairing too late when the hole is already large.

2. Using too small a patch.

3. To apply to damp fabric.

4. Washing too soon after mending.

How much can you save?

A pair of quality jeans often costs between 800 and 1,500 kronor. A team patch costs a fraction of that. If you extend the lifespan by one or two years, you effectively halve the cost per use.

Cooking is therefore not only sustainable – it is economically rational.

Recommended product

For best results, we recommend Patchlabs 100% cotton jeans patches . They are designed to match the structure of the denim and withstand movement, friction and washing.

With proper application, you get a strong and flexible reinforcement that lasts over time.

Summary

A hole in the crotch is one of the most common types of damage to jeans – but also one of the easiest to fix. With a durable patch, you can quickly stop the wear and tear and give your jeans new life.

Next time the fabric starts to thin – repair instead of replace.
