Repair your shirt | Patchlabs Percale Patch for fine clothing

by Daniel Forslund 12 Nov 2025

A classic shirt deserves a long life. Whether it's a thin tear on the sleeve, a small hole in the seam or wear on the cuff, there's an easy way to give it new life. With Patchlabs Laglapp Percale for fine fabrics, you can mend your shirt in just a few minutes - without a needle, thread or sewing.

This guide shows you how to quickly and effectively repair shirts and other finer garments. The result is discreet, durable and comfortable against the skin – perfect for cotton, linen and thin woven fabrics.

Prepare the garment before mending

1. Identify the damage

Examine where the fabric is damaged and how large the area is. Our percale patches are thin, pliable and made to blend into finer fabrics. They are perfect for shirts, blouses and other fine garments where you want the repair to be as invisible as possible.

2. Clean the area

For best results, the surface should be completely clean and dry. Use a damp cloth and a little mild soap to remove any dirt or dust. Then let the garment dry completely before applying the patch. Avoid fabric softener – it can affect the adhesion.

3. Cut the team patch

Cut the patch so that it covers the entire damage with at least a one centimeter margin. Round the edges slightly so that they stick better. Our percale patches are available in several light colors that match regular shirt fabrics - choose the tone that is closest to the color of the garment.

How to mend your shirt with Laglapp Percale

Step 1 – Place the team patch

Carefully peel off the backing paper and place the patch over the hole or tear. For thinner shirt fabrics, it is recommended that you attach the patch to the inside for an invisible result. Press the patch in place with your fingertips and make sure it lies flat.

Step 2 – Press firmly

Start from the center and work outwards to avoid air bubbles. If you want to reinforce the bond, you can use an iron on a low heat. Place a piece of baking paper between the iron and the patch and press gently for a few seconds.

Step 3 – Let the garment rest

Let the shirt lie flat for at least an hour after repairing. This allows the glue to cure properly and creates a strong and smooth surface that will withstand both use and washing.

Tips for best results

1. Match the color

For an invisible repair, choose a patch that matches the color of your shirt. Our percale patches come in several shades of white, blue and gray that match most classic shirts.

2. Apply from the inside

If the fabric is thin or transparent, the repair will look best when you attach the patch to the inside. It blends in with the fabric structure and becomes almost invisible.

3. Avoid stretching the fabric

Lay the shirt flat when attaching the patch and avoid pulling on the fabric. This will ensure that the patch holds its shape and does not wrinkle during use.

Common mistakes to avoid

1. Attaching the patch to damp fabric

If the fabric is not completely dry, the effectiveness of the glue will be reduced. Always make sure the shirt is clean and dry before mending.

2. Using too small a patch

If the patch only just covers the hole, it risks slipping at the edges. Always cut a slightly larger piece for better adhesion.

3. Washing too early

Let the repair rest for at least 24 hours before washing the garment for the first time. The glue will then have fully hardened.

Care and washing instructions after repair

Wash the shirt at 30 degrees on a gentle cycle and let it air dry. Avoid high temperatures and tumble drying, as heat can affect the glue. With proper care, the repair will last as long as the garment itself.
